Art Insurance

With the rapid growth in the collecting of fine art, antiques and collectables over the last few years, we have seen a dramatic change in the attitude of UK insurance companies towards these collections and many refuse to offer the appropriate cover.

Why choose us for your Art Insurance

To meet this growing demand, we specifically designed Art-Insure to deal with the intricacies of this specialised market, and our contract is now the UK’s leading purpose-built insurance scheme for fine art, antiques, sculptures and collectables.

Most standard policies lack sufficient flexibility and width of cover, therefore we have access to Underwriters who understand these needs and who are prepared to offer imaginative solutions. Furthermore our experience in this area of the market enables us to provide guidance on the correct level of cover required and where appropriate to arrange surveys and valuations. This enables us to tailor cover to your individual needs and lifestyle but above all, to provide “peace of mind” with the minimum of formalities.

    We provide peace of mind:

Rest assured, we use a selection of the finest insurers in the UK, specialising in the insurance needs of today’s collector. We can offer a choice of either a separate “Fine Art” policy or a total package that incorporates all of your home contents and buildings whilst absorbing your Fine Art however large or small the collection.

Unlike traditional insurances, our policies provide “loss in value” cover on all of your paintings and sculptures which will ensure that you will be compensated for any loss in market value suffered after an item has been repaired. Compare this to a standard household insurance policy!

In the event of the death of the artist:

Another advantage of our policy cover, is that for six months following the death of an artist (occurring during your policy term), any items that you may have by the artist would be automatically increased by up to 100% without charge.

    Specifying your fine art:

Standard policies will often ask that each item of £1,000 or more is specified and a valuation obtained, which for many collectors with a large collection would be both time consuming and expensive. Our policies offer generous limits and very wide cover, which means that for single items under £5,000 there is no need to specify it or have a valuation, although of course we would always recommend a regular valuation as evidence of loss in the event of a claim.

    Warranty free cover:

A warranty is a condition of a policy that you must adhere to for a claim to be honoured by the insurer. For example, a common feature of a standard insurance policy is a “security warranty” which would state that all exit doors and windows would have to be closed and locked when a theft took place, in order for the claim to be paid. As you might expect, our insurers do not enforce such terms, accepting that anyone is capable of leaving a window slightly open or forgetting to set an alarm and would settle the claim without question.

Setting in place risk preventative measures and procedures can dramatically reduce the chances of the claimed risk happening again, such as improved security systems and the latest fire alarms. These efforts can also help increase the number of insurers that we are able to approach to provide you with the most comprehensive and lowest priced Art Insurance package in your current state of risk and previous claims.

    Can you cover high-value items?

Yes, we are able to provide this cover as part of your Art Insurance package. What are the dangers of getting the cheapest online quote?

Statistically, most of the time that people are enticed into purchasing the cheapest online quote from one of the aggregator sites you see on TV, is that you are at high risk of being underinsured. This is because the systems just give you the price based on the information you have added without any expert insurance guidance. You may have unknowingly not ticked something, or put in the wrong information from what the system was asking of you, and of course, no one reads the small print, so there might be something there that can prevent you from getting a claim paid out when you need it most.

The good thing with getting your Art Insurance with Bateman Group, especially if it’s for a high-value art and antiques, is that we are here with you as your trusted insurance advisors every step of the way, who you can actually speak with and visit in person if you want to. A standard policy will state that at the time of theft a claim will only be paid out if all the windows and doors are locked, which is very unreasonable. That’s why our panel of insurers understand this and provide bespoke policies for your specific art collection and situation.

Do I need to list every single item?

It is not required to list every single item of art you would like to insure, as long as you specify the total value. We know that if you have a large collection then this can seem a very daunting and also expensive, time-consuming task, which is why when you take out a quote with us for Art Insurance, that we will keep everything concise, simple and straightforward for you. At the same time also keeping a high level of detail and expertise in your policy wordings, that our insurance advisors will work on to ensure you are fully covered in any circumstance, and also making you aware of all the options and potential risks.

Will my Home Insurance cover my art collection?

This is unlikely unless you are going to list every single item on your contents cover. There would also be missing cover such as the death of an artist and loss of value if anything was to happen with your high-value art or antiques. Your prized possessions are yours because you care and value them, so why would you not get the proper care to ensure their protection if anything unfortunate was to happen to your collection?

It’s far easier to get covered with a specialised Art Insurance package, as you do not need to list every single item, as long as you know the total value then you are able to get insured easier. This is especially if you are adding more valuables to your collection, which would mean you wouldn’t have to update your policy after every single new item in your possession.
