The pensions dashboard deadline is approaching. By October 31st, 2026, all pension schemes with over 100 active or deferred members must connect to the pensions dashboard system. For trustees, administrators, and pension providers, this is one of the year’s most important regulatory dates.
If your scheme is not yet connected, there’s not much time left. Missing the deadline can lead to serious regulatory issues. Even if you are already connected or plan to connect soon, it is important to know what the dashboard means for your members and what to expect after October 31.

    What Is the Pensions Dashboard?

The Pensions Dashboard is a government-backed platform where people can see all their pension savings in one place. Members can view details from occupational schemes, personal pensions, the state pension, and other retirement savings through a single website managed by the Money and Pensions Service.
The pensions dashboard technology ecosystem has seen large pension schemes and providers, as well as all public service schemes, already connect in 2025. Medium and smaller schemes and providers will connect during the first nine months of 2026, with the statutory backstop connection date on October 31st, 2026.
This is a big change for pension transparency. For the first time, people can see all their retirement savings together without contacting different providers or searching through old paperwork.

    Who Must Connect?

The October 31st deadline is for pension schemes and providers with over 100 active or deferred members. The Pensions Regulator, the Pensions Management Institute, and the Pensions Dashboards Programme have all released guidance to help trustees and providers meet this deadline.
Smaller schemes with fewer than 100 members have until October 31, 2027 to connect. Many are choosing to connect early to avoid a last-minute rush.

What Happens If You Miss the Deadline?

Missing the October 31st deadline is a serious issue. The Pensions Regulator has stated that non-compliance is a regulatory matter. Possible consequences include:
    • Regulatory action from the Pensions Regulator
    • Enforcement activity for trustees who fail to comply
    • Reputational damage with members and stakeholders
    • Potential fines and disciplinary action
The regulator has made it clear that this deadline cannot be changed. Unlike earlier deadlines, the dashboard connection requirement has a firm cut-off.

    The Benefits for Members

For members, the pensions dashboard offers a new level of clarity about retirement savings. Members can:
    • View all their pension pots in one place
    • Understand their total retirement savings position
    • Identify forgotten or dormant pensions
    • Estimate retirement income
    • Make better decisions about pension consolidation or transfers
For many people, this will be the first time they can see their full pension picture. This transparency helps with better retirement planning and shows the importance of professional financial advice.

    Current Status and Remaining Challenges

As October 31st gets closer, the Pensions Regulator, the Pensions Management Institute, and the Pensions Dashboards Programme have released more guidance to help trustees and providers. This shows ongoing support and highlights the urgency to get schemes connected.
Some schemes have had technical problems connecting. Issues like data quality, system compatibility, and integration have caused delays. The Pensions Dashboards Programme has worked with providers to solve these problems.
Schemes that are not yet connected should contact their pension provider or administrator right away to check their connection status and make sure they meet the deadline.

    What Happens After October 31st?

The dashboard will not be available to the public right away. The MoneyHelper dashboard from the Money and Pensions Service is expected to launch in 2027 or 2028. Connecting by October 31st means your scheme will be ready when the public dashboard goes live.
After the deadline, regulators will likely focus on data quality and accuracy. Schemes must keep their member data up to date and correct all year.

    What Trustees Should Do Now

If you’re a trustee or administrator and your scheme hasn’t yet connected:
    • Take action now. Contact your pension administrator or IT provider as soon as possible. Do not wait until the last week of October. Connection times can vary, and delays might cause you to miss the deadline.
    • Check your member numbers. Make sure you have more than 100 active or deferred members. If you are close to the threshold, recalculate to be sure. Schemes with just under 100 members still need to register as exempt.
    • Get your data ready. Make sure your member data is accurate and up to date. The dashboard will only work well if the information it uses is reliable.
    • Talk to your members. Let them know the dashboard is coming and explain what it means for them. This helps manage expectations and shows good governance.
    • Think about getting professional advice. If you are unsure about your responsibilities or status, ask your scheme adviser or administrator for help.
The pensions dashboard shows the government’s commitment to better pension transparency and helping people manage their retirement planning. While the October 31st deadline brings short-term pressure, connecting to the system puts your scheme in a good position with both regulators and members.
At The Bateman Group, we are keeping a close eye on these changes and helping our clients understand how the pensions dashboard affects their retirement planning and financial strategy.
